Deniliquin Houses
A small vacant block of land presented a number of constraints, firstly by its triangular shape and secondly by a levee bank along the long boundary built 1m higher than the level of the land.
The brief was to design two houses of similar size. Situated in a country town the established dwelling pattern was single storey buildings of both masonry and lightweight construction.
The design solution was to raise the houses equal to the levee bank where the best views present themselves.
Houses are built on a split level plan allowing good ventilation and shading. Roofs are kept to simple pitched roof forms. Corrugated metal for roofs and brick and fibre cement for walls was selected to complement the rural character of the area.
