St George Bank
Georgeson Associates provided design, documentation and contract management services to over 100 bank branches in metropolitan Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and along the eastern seaboard, in response to the merging of St George and other Building Societies during the 1990's.
Although working with a standard template, bank branches require custom design and planning, and the designer’s specialist knowledge of teller security, cash security, data and communications systems.
Whilst maintaining the brand identity, every branch design was custom designed in response to the local context, including heritage restrictions.
A number of branches were new buildings constructed of typical two storey street front configuration with a traditional two storey banking chamber in the front and offices on a mezzanine level upstairs. These are substantial buildings presenting to the “High Street”.
Other branches were fitouts in major shopping centres and malls, in leased tenancies.
Branches were designed to the highest level of finishes employing robust materials. The bank's management chose higher capital costs as a trade off for lower maintenance and operational costs due to the number of branches in remote sites.
